Crash Site: Dense forest near Gaurikund, Uttarakhand – just minutes after takeoff.

🔥 What Happened?

A helicopter operated by Aryan Aviation took off from Kedarnath shrine with 7 people on board. Just a few minutes into the flight, the chopper crashed into a forested hill, likely due to fog, low visibility, and extreme weather conditions.

"We heard a loud thud and saw smoke rising from the mountain…" – said a local resident near Gaurikund.

👥 The Victims

All 7 people on board died in the crash, including:

  • 👨‍✈️ Pilot Anil Singh – an experienced flier
  • 👶 23-month-old girl from Maharashtra
  • 👧 10-year-old child
  • 👨‍✈️ Retired Lt. Col. Rajveer Singh Chauhan
  • 🙏 3 other pilgrims returning after darshan

Families of the deceased were devastated. Many had come with hopes and dreams to Kedarnath — they returned home in coffins.

🌧️ Reason for Crash

According to early investigations by the DGCA and AAIB:

  • ❗ Low visibility due to heavy clouds ☁️
  • 🚁 Pilot misjudged altitude due to fog
  • ❌ The helicopter crashed into the terrain in a Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) accident

Weather reports showed that conditions were not suitable for flying at that time.

🚨 Rescue Operation

  • Local villagers rushed to the site upon hearing the crash.
  • Within minutes, teams from NDRF, SDRF, Uttarakhand Police, and Fire Brigade reached the location.
  • But unfortunately, all passengers had already died on the spot.
  • The helicopter was completely destroyed and caught fire.

🏛️ Government Action

  • ❌ Aryan Aviation’s flying license was suspended immediately.
  • 📄 FIRs were filed against Aryan Aviation's accountable manager and chief manager.
  • 🚫 Char Dham helicopter services were temporarily stopped for safety audits.
  • 🧑‍✈️ PM Modi and CM Dhami expressed deep condolences to families.

❗ Bigger Questions Raised

This was the 5th helicopter-related incident on the Char Dham route in just 6 weeks!
Politicians, citizens, and aviation experts are now demanding:

  • 🔁 Use of twin-engine helicopters in hilly terrain
  • 🛰️ Advanced terrain tracking systems
  • 🕒 Better weather monitoring and stricter SOPs
  • 🛑 No flying in early fog hours
